A Lovesong of Rooks: The Swallow Who Fell in Love with the Moon Volume 1
Entered in the Kadokawa Bookwalker Light Novel Contest!
The year is 1998, as viewed through a peculiar looking glass.
Idiosyncratic bibliophile Demeter Serraffield is the heir of the aristocratic Serraffield family, holders of a seat in the Curia of Lords, the parliamentary body that rules the whole of the world. The day before her sixteenth birthday, she travels to Metropoly, the only city in the world, where she must reside by law, or give up her seat in the Curia as well as her status as an aristocrat.
At the Seat of Law, the home of the Curia of Lords, Demi expects to be squired to a predatory narcissist whose family is allied with her own.
But unseen things are moving in unseen places, and Demi ends up being squired to the serious and reserved Iron Duke, Matthias Eisenreich. He is one of the twelve peers, the most powerful aristocrats in the world, and unexpectedly, also a book lover.
Let loose into the City with more freedom than she has every enjoyed in her life, Demi repeatedly finds herself in uncanny places, experiencing peculiar happenings. Are these authentic experiences of high strangeness, or is there a more mundane explanation? Even the ordinary can be perilous.
This new world is brutal and dangerous, but also exhilarating and astonishing. Demi must learn on her feet as the world wakes both love and terror in her heart. It is ‘a mixture of the sordid and the magnificent; of mud and stars.’
This world is a terrible place, but there is hope.
Above all else, Demi must discover the terrible hidden truth of the world.
She will shake the pillars of heaven, and mend all that is broken.
